Shawnee Moon was my 2013 Christmas present from my wonderful husband Joe although he never knew it until the day she arrived. She was born, raised and trained by Candice Shauger at Genesis Farm in Bremen, Ohio. We were unable to show Moon at the Great Celebration and Donkey Show this year due to a family emergency but we did manage to take her to her first show a few weeks later and she stood Grand Champion Jennet of the Bedford County Fair plus she won a very large color class too! What a sweetheart and sensible lady this girl is. I really love her and she rides like a dream. Thank you to Candace for doing such a great job training this lady and for allowing her to come live at Half Ass Acres.

9/24/07 @ 9:30pm! Bow's baby was breech and she was in labor for nearly two hours before the vet arrived and delivered the baby alive! A true miracle...she is a gorgeous, tiny, dark spot but she needs your prayers. She was born without a tail or anus. We are taking her to UT Vet Hospital in the morning. This baby wants to live. The vet was amazed that she was still alive and we were too. Bow is doing fine and loves her baby who she thinks is just perfect. A big thank you to our wonderful vet, Dr. Greg Harris!!!!

9/24/08: Today is PTL's 1st birthday! We are having a party! Join us in person in the barn or on-line on barn cam #1 at 4:30pm!!

9/25/08: The birthday party was a great success. Thank-you to all who attended in person and on-line. Click here to see her birthday party photos.

Update 10/25/11: Pony-Tail is continuing to do well but she has developed a limp in her right front leg. We have taken her for x-rays from her hoof to her shoulder and no problem was found. We are looking into other options of what this might be. We are afraid it may be a problem with her spine. She is now under the barn cam and buddied up with  Shimmy for company as her old friend, Poppy, is now being bred and is in another pasture with a jack.

Pony-Tail will never be used for breeding, of course, and she will always be the mascot at Half Ass Acres for she truly has just half of an ass!! New photos above were taken on August 31st, 2010, with our great friend's, Maria Randall, assistance!

Feather is a miniature dwarf mare measuring 24" who thinks she is 10' tall! We love our little Feather who has the run of the farm.

Update: It was a hard decision and a great sacrifice of our hearts but in August of 2006 Feather and her best friend, Drizzle, were donated to:

Tomorrow's Rainbow, Inc.

where they are very much loved and appreciated by the children who are in their program. We miss Feather and Drizzle but we are so proud of the work they are now doing.

THE LEGEND OF THE DONKEY’S CROSS

Joseph purchased a small donkey several months before the trip to Bethlehem so Mary could become accustomed to the animal. A great bond grew between the pair as Mary took care of the donkey and nightly covered him with her robe. However, at the start of the trip the donkey picked up a thorn in one of his front hooves which caused him to go lame. Every step was painful, but he knew how important it was for him to carry Mary carefully. With great patience and will power the donkey struggled along the trail carefully, being sure not to limp for fear it would make Mary uncomfortable. So careful he was that neither Mary nor Joseph knew the donkey was in great pain. Finally the trip ended in Bethlehem. The little donkey was able to lie down and sleep in the hay, covered with Mary's robe. Later that night an angel came and lifted the robe from his back and said "Among the beasts thou alone always shall be blessed, for in another's time of need you bore your cross of pain in silence, and all men shall know you for the greatness of your heart. Your children and your children's children forever more shall bear your mark of honor among the beasts." When Mary's robe was removed from the donkey the next morning, she and Joseph saw something that had never been seen there before: A cross on his back. And every small donkey has since borne the cross on his back as a reward for his work and faithfulness.

Hug Your Donkey

When your day seems out of balance and so many things go wrong, when people fight around you and the day drags on so long, when parents act like children, and in-laws drive you bonkey, go out in your pasture and wrap your arms around your donkey.

His gentle breath enfolds you and he watches with those eyes. He may not have a PhD, but he is oh, so wise! His head rests on your shoulder. You embrace him oh so tight. He puts your world in balance, and makes it seem all right.

Your tears will soon stop flowing. The tension is now eased. The garbage has been lifted, and you're quiet and at peace. So when you need the balance from circumstances in your day, the best therapy that you can seek is out there eating hay!!
