We have 32 brood jennets that we breed approxiamately every two years. Their heights range from 28¾" to 33¼" with an average height of 32½". We have 11 young jennets that will not be bred until they are close to 4 years of age. As these young jennets are added to our breeding program we will be offering some of our other jennets for sale to keep our herd at a manageable number. We want to always be able to give each of our donkeys the individual attention that they so crave.

Bridget won first in Halter Jennets and first in the Solid Color Class out of 9 entries at the Hohenwald County Fair when owned by Wit's End Farm. Photos above were taken one day after foaling in September 2008.

Dark spot with a wide blaze and a bull's eye star on her forehead. Two dark eyes with dark eyeliner all around both eyes. Four dark legs with one back white pastern. She has a dark band across her nose that makes her look like she is wearing a halter. She has deep halos around every single one of her spots. One of the most unusual spots we have ever seen! Picabo was owned by our mentors, Ed & Linda Trimnell of Windcrest Acres, since she was a young foal and Linda considered her to be her best producing jennet. When Windcrest Acres went out of business due to health reasons Picabo was sold to Kathy Loudamy at K & K Ranch. Picabo produced many more champions while owned by Kathy and she would have never parted with her except that she was the hardest donkey to catch she had ever encountered. Since Kathy is usually always alone at the barn she offered her to me since my husband is retired and we do all of our donkey chores together. I have admired Picabo and her offspring thoughout all the years I have been involved in donkeys and I jumped at the chance to own such a fantastic little spotted donkey. I thought I would have no trouble training Miss Picabo to easily be caught.

Day one of owning her: I kept her in a stall and small paddock and gave her a treat every time I passed her but only if she would allow me to put the halter on her. I must have repeated this lesson no less than 50 times that day. Late that afternoon I turned Picabo out in a larger pasture since I was going to be gone all the next day. About an hour later I went to her pasture just to see if I could catch her. Well....... she ran like the wind  before I even got within 30' of her!! She was so far away that she could not have heard me saying 'cookie, cookie' if I had used a megaphone. A cowboy with a 500' rope could not have lassoed her!! I called Kathy and told her I wanted my money back. Kathy promptly told me that Picabo was my 'diet donkey' and she insisted I keep her so that I would be forced to lose weight. At this rate I should weigh about 100 lbs by this time next year. If you are ever this way please stop by for a visit and help me catch Miss Boo so I can worm her and do her little hooves occasionally. All help will be so appreciated. Just consider visiting Picabo and me instead of going to the gym. I will keep you posted on the continuing saga of  "Catch Me If You Can".

"Boo" has retained her great conformation through nine foals and due to her refusal to be caught easily. She is square and drafty and she is a long time producer of show quality donkeys with her same outstanding build.

Thank you to The Randall Family for their expert assistance in handling Miss Boo during her photo shoot!! Now you can see why I love her even if she is hard to catch sometimes!

Boo has been bred to Black 'n' Blue (Bruise) for a foal due June 14th, 2012, but we don't know how he caught her! Boo is as easy as pie to catch and handle in our backyard. She is only hard to catch in a big open pasture.  Go figure!  Boo started her bag on 4/20/12! She is in the second stall and paddock along with Flirt, a dark spot.

Alanis, Bow's dam, stood Grand National Spotted Jennet the only year we showed her and later she produced a baby even better than she is....a sign of a great brood jennet! Bow was born on her mom's birthday...no wonder she is the spittin' image of her...but even better. She was expertly delivered by Julia and Rhonda Vaughn while they were house-sitting for us when we were away attending Wayne Lyon's Driving Seminar in Texas. A big 'Thank-You' to both Julia and Rhonda for delivering the best spotted jennet ever born on this farm! Also a thanks to Julia for naming her godchild!

We fell in love with Stardance when we were in Texas visiting Itsy Bitsy Burro Co and we just had to have her. She is just as sweet as she is beautiful! Stardance stays black all year round. She doesn't turn brown even when left out in the sun! The photos above were taken in November 2011, straight out of the pasture in her shaggy winter coat.  She is black as coal in the summertime or when body clipped. She is measuring well under 30.5" tall as well! We will take new photos and videos next spring after we body clip her.

We purchased Puzzles from Itsy Bitsy Burro Co shortly after her birth. Jerry and Tonnie delivered her to us during the 2008 Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show held July 10th thru 12th. Jerry showed her in the NMDA foal class on Thursday and won 2nd place showing against over 10 other entries. The Wilrich's had a dog show that Saturday and had to leave so Joe showed Puzzles in the National ACOSA class and won 2nd in the Two and Under Jennet class and then went on to win Reserve National Champion Spotted Jennet her second time ever in a show ring and the first time shown by Joe. We are so very proud of our new little jennet! It was quite an accomplishment for a six month old baby.

Sailor is home from Kathy's after three months of intensive training. She is now a perfect little lady and will trot beside you on command, side pass, back, etc. Money well spent. Sailor was shown at two shows while she was away and she placed 5th and 4th in her two classes and was a perfect little lady. We are very proud of our little Sailor. We just recentely purchased her back when Jane sadly retired from the miniature donkey business so she could travel. Amber Rose is a beautiful retired brood jennet that has not had a foal since 2006. Amber has the kind of head we adore on a donkey...short and wide. Since she has come to live at Half Ass Acres we have discovered she has a hormone problem. She smells like she is in season when she is not and it causes a jack to chase her for no reason. She is now retired to our jennet pasture and we will not allow a jack to torture her anymore.  We may attempt to hand bred her later this year and see if we can get her in foal. If not, she can live a life of ease here at Half Ass Acres. Thank you to Dena Wilson for handling Amber for her photo session.

10/29/10: Update! Amber has been vet checked to be at least six months safe in foal!! She was hand bred to Windcrest Firefly from 4/4/10 thru 4/09/10. She delivered a gorgeous dark red jennet on 5/01/11. Praise the Lord for answered prayers!! Photos above were taken on May 6th, 2011, five days after foaling her 8th foal!

She is so full of personality that she has the entire farm awaiting her grand entrance to the outside paddock on the first sunny day. You can almost see and hear all the other donkeys talking about the new GIRL on the farm and wondering what all the buzz is about over this new foal. She is going to knock their socks off first day out!

She was Linda Trimnell's very favorite donkey and the very last one she sold when she dispersed her herd due to health reasons. We are flattered that she let Junebug come to live at Half Ass Acres. Junebug has been bred to Heiken's Ark Napoleon for a foal due on March 23rd, 2012. Junebug is now under the barn cam and can be viewed by clicking this link. As of 3/08/12, she has still not even started her bag so we suspect that she came in again 3 weeks after March 23rd and this will make her new due date on April 13th.  Junebug is in the second stall and paddock along with Ten. A big, big 'Thank You' to Dena Wilson who assisted me in Bee's photo shoot in 100 degree weather and never complained!  You are a true friend, Dena, and I really appreciate you!

Bee had not had a foal since 2009 for her previous owners. We thought she was a barren jennet and purchased her back just to give her a forever home. She was with Napoleon from 4/22/11 thru 4/27/11. Bee was tested safe in foal by an exterior ultra-sound by a veterinarian on 3/20/12.
